BBQ by the Bridge: Australia Day 2019

Enjoy a traditional Aussie barbecue with a multicultural twist at BBQ by the Bridge in Bradfield Park, Milsons Point, this Australia Day.

With one of the most spectacular vantage points of the Sydney Harbour festivities, Bradfield Park is the perfect spot to watch the celebrations on the water while enjoying delicious barbecued cuisines from around the world, including American, Brazilian, Middle Eastern and many more.

There will also be live music and free entertainment for all ages in the Park between 10am and 4pm on Friday 26 January, with the ARIA-nominated funk and soul band The Bamboos headlining at 12.20pm.  Also performing are the Evergreen Collective, High Rollers and the Martini Club.

Visitors can get up close with some Australian native animals, learn some circus skills or simply enjoy the view. There will also be free face painting and jumping castles to keep the children entertained.

Bradfield Park will also be the staging point for an incredible 21-gun salute known as The Salute to Australia at 11.45am, which will be received by the Governor of New South Wales on board HMAS Choules.

North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson said that BBQ by the Bridge was a great place to bring family and friends together to enjoy Australia Day.

“Celebrating Australia Day with a BBQ among family and friends is a popular Aussie tradition. We are building on this tradition with BBQ by the Bridge, which will bring together barbecued cuisines from all over the world.

“With a varied range of food on offer, people can sit back and relax while watching the festivities on the water. There will also be lots of free entertainment for children, making sure BBQ by the Bridge is fun for all the family.”

As well as BBQ by the Bridge, other fun events are scheduled on Australia Day in the North Sydney LGA.

A Family Fun Day will be held once again at North Sydney Olympic Pool where there will be a giant pool party between 11am and 2.30pm. The special event includes fun on pool inflatables, music, roving entertainers, face-painting and children’s activities – all for the usual pool entry fee.

Highland Dancers will be performing in Civic Park, North Sydney, between 9am and 1pm.

In addition to the community celebrations, North Sydney’s Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Community Awards will be held in the Independent Theatre.
