A Stroll Along The Centre Track At Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park: June 2024

Photos by Kevin Murray

A favourite stroll of Glenys and Kevin Murray is the Centre Track during early Winter.

As you walk along the ridge line, you can take in the scenic views over several waterways, including Coal and Candle Creek and Akuna Bay.

Climbing a small knoll, you’ll find a rock escarpment and tessellated pavements revealing faint engravings of footprints etched into the sandstone. As you ponder their significance, whisper an acknowledgement to the Aboriginal people of this country, before retracing your steps.

Although Spring is a great time to visit Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park due to the explosion of wildflowers out, you will still see some flowering during Winter - in fact, Australia is one of the few places in the world where flowers bloom year round, providing food for wildlife - as can be seen in the great photos Kevin took this June 2024.

Centre track starts near the tollbooth in the southern precinct of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

To get there:

  1. Take McCarrs Creek Road from Terrey Hills
  2. Park near the tollbooth at the start of Liberator General San Martin Drive
  3. Centre trail starts on the right, 30m along Liberator General San Martin Drive.
