Calling all community development heroes, environmental defenders and creatives: Community grants applications now open
Local creatives, environmental advocates and community groups dedicated to change are invited to share in a pool of $280,000 in grants for projects that support and create a more enriched, connected and sustainable Northern Beaches.
In keeping with the Northern Beaches championing of our community, Council is financially supporting projects that enhance our collective community and cultural experience as well as those that improve the environment we live in.
The funding pool comprises $240,000 for arts, creativity and community development, and $40,000 shared in the environmental grants.
Mayor Michael Regan said Council supported many worthwhile innovative projects over several years and encouraged clubs, individuals and community organisations to look into whether they qualify for funding.
“The cultural and creative sector in the Northern Beaches created $1.6 billion in output and $790 million in value added in 2018/19. That’s 6.5 per cent of our total economy.
“We have lots of talented, creative people in our community creating significant bottom-line economic value, jobs and shared enjoyment.
“These grants assist our creative people to bring to life their great ideas that help to nurture our community.
“Applications are open for a broad range of projects and activities. We are looking for applications that will build strength and resilience by empowering people of all ages and abilities to become engaged and connected to their community,” Cr Regan said.
“These grants also encourage the community to connect with their local natural environment and build and strengthen local communities.
“Our local communities know their local environments better than most, and they have the knowledge and the passion to take care of the unique flora and fauna within them.
“Over the years, we’ve seen what our local communities have to offer when it comes to caring for our environment.
“Our residents are doing great work to manage, conserve and protect our natural habitats, land, rivers, wetlands, coasts and the species they support.
“Projects that contribute to the local economy and enrich our individual and collective wellbeing are all welcome to apply for support.”
