Local Government Election 2024: First Preference Votes Counted - the numbers so far

Polls closed at 6pm on Saturday September 14 in the 2024 Local Government Elections - we all now await the results of the count. Good Luck and Thank You to all those who stood to speak up for their local communities.

The Pittwater Online News Profile webpage on candidates is available at: 2024 Local Government Election: all the Candidates from Barrenjoey to Manly

Worth noting: although denied a poll on getting Pittwater Council returned as part of this election, undeterred, members of the community were out gathering signatures for a THIRD petition to present to the current Minister for Local Government. Everyone asked while PON staff were 'out and about' signed.

Results timetable: 2024 Local Government elections

Acting NSW Electoral Commissioner Dr Matthew Phillips said counting would begin as soon as polling places close, with results progressively published on the NSW Electoral Commission’s website.

“To ensure the health and safety of staff and scrutineers, counting will conclude by 10pm on election night,” he said.

No counting will be conducted on Sunday, 15 September. Other critical election operations will take place on Sunday, including the delivery of ballot papers and other materials to our centralised count centres.

“Our staff will have a very long day today after starting early and are about to start a long night of counting. In line with our work health and safety principles, staff will get a well-deserved break tomorrow before counting resumes on Monday,” said Dr Phillips.

Counting will then proceed in line with legislative requirements and the published count timeline.

All count results (Initial counts, Check counts, and Distribution of preferences) will be published as soon as they are available.

More than 1.3m votes cast ahead of 2024 Local Government election day

Local Government Election 2024: First Preference Votes

The count cannot be concluded until all postal votes have been returned to the Electoral Commissioner. The deadline for return of completed postal votes is 6pm on Friday, 27 September 2024.

When all the votes have been counted, the official announcement of the elections result will be declared in writing. Results will be declared between 1 and 3 October 2024.

The date of the declaration varies from council to council. The declaration will be displayed at the office of the relevant council and the final election result will be available at elections.nsw.gov.au

Note: Where there is above-the-line voting, group votes directly contribute to the first preference votes of the first candidate within a given group and indicates a preference flow to at least that group in candidate order for the group.

Note: For candidates marked with an asterisk '*', their formal Below The Line votes are included in the "Total Informal/Other Votes" figure. This figure also includes ballot papers that are obviously informal, unclear ballot papers, and formal ballot papers marked both Above and Below The Line. All ballot papers will be re-checked for formality and sorted to their correct category in the Check Count.
