Lovat on the Beach: Avalon Beach
(in Avalon Surf Club)
On Saturday, 7th September 2024 Lovat on the Beach opened in Avalon Beach surf club, featuring a café at beach level and a restaurant upstairs, overlooking the sand and ocean.
This long awaited return of a place to get a cuppa and a bite to eat at Avalon surf club can be attributed to Sunny Singh, the proud owner of Lovat Newport and Lovat on the Beach, who is not the same gentleman currently representing the community as a councillor.
In order to miss the summer crowds our first venture into trying the food took place at the café outlet on a Thursday towards the end of the lunch shift, with a wonderful sea breeze blowing the humidity and heat away.
We chose the Crunchy Chicken Burger ($20.90) - Southern Fried Chicken, American Cheese, Coleslaw, Chipotle Aioli and Chips.
The Wagyu Beef Burger ($20.90) - Wagyu Beef Patty, Crispy Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Lovat Special Sauce and Chips
And the Fish and Chips ($19.90) - Beer Battered Fish served with Garden Salad, Lemon Wedges, Tartare Sauce and Chips.
We also tried the fresh juices; Mood Booster ($8.90) - Orange, Pineapple, Apple, Ginger.
Lovat on the Beach also offers an All Day Breakfast Menu, a Grab and Go option for Chicken & Avocado Wrap, a Falafel Wrap and a Ham & Cheese Toastie or Ham & Cheese Croissant and a Kids Menu, which includes a Cheeseburger and chips, Popcorn chicken and chips and Fish and Chips.
The Mood Booster came before the burgers and meant we ended up taking half of the same home for later on - the portions are generous and it gets harder to eat so much in one sitting as you get older.
The food was great - fresh, quickly made and brought to the table, and the staff were friendly, attentive and happy to accommodate the attentions of the furry member of our party, who must go everywhere with us and must give everyone at least one dog kiss.
As one of us loves oysters, we're keen to try out the à la carte menu upstairs. Here you can order something for vegetarians - the House Made Gnocchi with Asparagus with oyster mushrooms, pesto, rocket and pecorino definitely appeals - as well as for those who love their fresh seafood. The Mains menu also offers a range of poultry, meat, seafood and a Vego option.
There are also Daily Specials on offer.
Well worth a visit soon - for great food and to enjoy the view, especially during whale migration season.
