Member for Mackellar, Jason Falinski MP has attended the opening of a new GP Led respiratory clinic, funded by the Federal Government in Dee Why.

The practice has been established by Dr Harry Nespolon who is the President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, with the assistance of the Sydney North Health Network.

“Dee Why has been identified as a hot spot for coronavirus, so it is fitting for the suburb to have a clinic open up.” Mr Falinski said.

“Dr Harry Nespolon is a highly qualified GP, and the clinic will offer the highest quality of care and treatment for our northern beaches community”.

Mr Falinski has stressed the need for everyone to be tested regardless of how mild their symptoms are. The ability to conduct large scale testing is critical in quickly identifying and containing outbreaks.

“The message from health authorities is clear, if you have even the slightest of symptoms go and get tested.” Mr Falinski stated.

“Sydney North Health Network has worked closely with the Commonwealth’s Department of Health, the local health district and general practices to identify suitable clinics across the Northern Sydney region to ensure our community is well supported during this period” says Sue Barry, Respiratory Clinics Lead.

The GP led Respiratory clinic was developed to assess people with mild-moderate respiratory symptoms and test and diagnose cases including COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia. This gives patients the opportunity to meet a GP and have a complete respiratory assessment.

The clinic’s aim is to take the pressure off local NSW Hospital emergency departments needing to prioritise severe health cases, and relieve pressure on general practices, enabling them to continue to safely care for patients for non-respiratory related conditions.

Sue Barry, Respiratory Clinics Lead continued, “It is important to consult with your regular GP on all health matters and not leave issues unchecked. There are dedicated health services for patients to attend and remain safe. Your GP will have the best advice”

The Dee Why Respiratory Clinic is open to all patients and is a free service (including nonmedicare card holders). Appointments only-no walk ins; no GP referral is required. Bookings may be made online or by telephone: 8416 5005.
