BEGINNERS TO ADVANCED
An intensive 4 session course over January with the life model building a raku clay sculpture to be fired or possibly cast at the end of the coursework. I have had a special request to hold a January intensive for those who are working and can’t make the Friday Lifeclass.
This Lifeclass Intensive is on the weekends of the 4th and 5th, 11th and 12th of January 2020, from 10am-2pm each day.
Includes model and all tools.
Additional cost: Raku clay $30 per bag if required.
SESSION 1 – 4/01/20
Drawing the pose as an armature investigation and then making a raku armature to begin our form development, seeing rhythm and proportional values.
SESSION 2 – 5/01/20
Massing forms over the raku armature, roughing out the form relationships and proportional values through the act of seeing and developing spatial awareness.
SESSION 3 – 11/01/20
Further form and planar development and modelling the forms as a unified whole.
SESSION 4 – 12/01/20
Refining our modelling, adding facial features and hair. Completion of modelling, discussions regarding firing or casting the finished modelling.

In this workshop we will be looking closely to draw the wonderful Powerful owl to see its proportions and personality. These drawings will then be translated into a bas relief modelling and carving into plasticine. This relief will then be cast in plaster to take home and enjoy.

Sydney is the best city on the planet (but don’t tell anyone you know who lives in Melbourne!) And to celebrate living here we are going to do some drawings of our famous buildings and structures. These will then be coloured in using wax crayons. A layer of acrylic paint will then be applied before we pull back the paint to reveal the beautiful coloured city underneath.

We will begin by making some drawings of your home, or perhaps a fantasy home that you would like to draw from your imagination and maybe live in one day. From these drawings we will then turn your artwork into a 3D air drying paper clay hand-built sculpture using slab and coiling techniques. These can be painted at home after they dry :)

Australian artist Susan O’Doherty is our inspiration for this art workshop. We will play with the repetition of rectangles, circles and triangles to create a layered pattern using opaque and translucent materials to create an individual artwork on canvas to hang and enjoy at home.

Skulls are great to draw and the Mexicans love to make designs that resemble tattoos on their skulls :) In this workshop we will transform our drawing of the skull onto plasticine. We will then carve our tattoo design into the skull shape on the plasticine before casting in plaster. The finished artwork can be hung on your wall at home!

Bring along your favourite toy for this wonderful art workshop. We will at first draw our toy concentrating on the outline. This drawing will then be cut out and traced a few times until we have made a repeating pattern on our canvas. The pattern will then be painted and collaged ready to take home and show your family and friends.

In this workshop we will choose our favourite 2 toys to bring along and draw. We will start by making up a short story about our 2 toys and an adventure that they go on together. We will draw this story on a plasticine relief and then cut the background away to create a relief sculpture. This will then be cast in plaster as a wall hanging to take home and enjoy.

We will begin this workshop using our imagination to come up with a fantasy face mask that we will draw in pencil on paper and colour. This idea will then be transferred to a paper bag, big enough to go over your head :) We will then cut, colour and collage the paper bag to create your special mask. Who knows, you might like to wear this at home and surprise your family!

Learn the art of Random Weaving with natural materials.
Using materials that are gifts from nature, learn to make fibre sculptures with the absorbing organic process of random weaving. Learn about collecting, preparing and storing natural weaving materials like palm inflorescence and leaves. Discover new uses for materials from your garden. Then immerse yourself in a free-form weaving technique in a relaxed communal environment.
Warning: Weaving has been known to be addictive!
