Hi Folks

It was a very wet week, and I only managed some sunrise photos last Tuesday.  There has been lots of rain, especially Thursday & Friday.  The forecast is more on the weekend, clearing on Sunday.  Always happens when we wash the sheets.

Some other pics are on our travels around Sydney.

The photos are attached.

Narrabeen Lagoon Breakout: Sunday April 7 2024

Post Thursday - Friday storms

Gerry and I went for a walk down to the Narrabeen Headland to see the results of the recent downpours and storms.  I took some pics as well.

It was late afternoon close to sunset on Sunday April 7 2024.

Turimetta Moods

Waves are the voices of tides.  Tides are life. - Jill Davis

Hi Folks

It has been a funny week ... big winds, big tides & big swells, and big erosion of the whole beach (About 50 m back into the sea).  Even the surfboard riders did not venture out some mornings.

The high water mark on some mornings went right to the back of the beach, with the Hermit missing his sleeping spots some nights.

I think the outstanding thing for me was the massive beach erosion of about 50m, forming a sand bar further out to sea.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Turimetta Beach sunrises
  • Turimetta Beach sand erosion
  • Family photo shoot
  • Sunrises with waves
  • Surfboard rider entering beach
  • Sunset from Warriewood home
  • Wind blown sand & bird footprints
  • Waves
  • Views from Turimetta Lookout
  • Leisurely fisherman in seat
  • Extent of high tide to edge of beach
  • Noisy Miner at home bird bath

As always, enjoy nature.

Tame birds sing of freedom.  Wild birds fly. - John Lennon

Hi Folks

This week was the usual mix of good days and not so good days.  Turimetta Beach always displays it's moods, and photos I have taken of the same spots can look very different.

The thing that I do remember well is that I met my old companion (the Willy Wagtail) on the beach and he followed me for a good 100m.  I think I disturbed the ground insects around the washed up seaweed, which helped in his search.  But it was an enjoyable experience, as he was always close by.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Turimetta Beach sunrises & rocks & wave action
  • Rat Park sunrise
  • Warriewood home sunsets (including volcano effect)
  • Low tide rock shelfs
  • Low tide Sea Urchins in rock cracks
  • Old Oyster bases
  • The Gutter exposed for swimmers
  • Sunrise at Middle Creek Reserve
  • Canna Lily & seed pods
  • Narrabeen Lake entrance shelter & rain
  • Turimetta Beach southern end sunrises & rocks
  • Willy Wagtail

As always, enjoy nature.

Rocks can symbolise steadiness, permanence & strength, but still can be moved by water. - Unknown

Hi Folks

As always, another mixed week weather-wise, with cooler air and time to wear a parka.  The water in Narrabeen Rock Pool has a cool bite to it, but is very invigorating as long as you have the courage to jump in.

Willy Wag tail is still following me along the beach during his insect search.  But what I have noticed is the increase in the number of smaller birds in the trees & small bushes at the back of the beach (including Swallows, Wattle Birds, Noisy Miners, Magpies etc).  Must be time for nesting.

The beach has been eroded more, with the sand going out to sea.  There are more exposed rocks at the headlands, and along the beach.  The Gutter has now been exposed again at the southern end, and is being used again for swimming.

In my travels to go swimming at the Sports Academy, I have managed to get some photos of the lake from Middle Creek carpark.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Sunrise behind storm clouds
  • Beach erosion due to rain
  • Willy Wagtail still following me
  • Rock slip at The Hermit's sleeping spot
  • Exposed rocks
  • Middle and Deep Creek sunrises and environs
  • Warriewood home cloudy sunsets
  • Sunrises below storm clouds heading north
  • Beach reflections
  • Rock fisherman

As always, enjoy nature.

No matter how politely one says it, we owe our existence to the farts of blue-green algae. - Diane Ackerman

Hi Folks

What a mixed week, with lots of rain, and real heavy here at Warriewood all week.  Did manage to get down to Turimetta a couple of times, and was lucky one morning to get a low tide and walk around an exposed rock shelf which was covered in green algae.  Some interesting wavy patterns.

Willy Wagtail came out for a short visit to catch the insects I was disturbing while walking along the beach.

There was a small rock slip on the middle headland just above the spot where our resident Hermit has one of his sleeping spots.  He did survive, as he is back to another location, but still prefers Turimetta Beach without the crowds.

Still getting some shots at Middle Creek car park on my way to swimming at the Sports Academy.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Sunrise northern end
  • Algae patterns
  • Sunset at Berry Park Narrabeen
  • Sydney visit to darling Harbour (Pouring rain)
  • Pigeon having bath in pouring rain
  • Harbour Bridge from front upstairs seat in B1 bus
  • Warriewood home & rain
  • Rock slip & Hermit sleeping spot
  • Sunrises & clouds
  • Warriewood home sunsets (between showers)
  • Middle Creek sunrise
  • Fungi at Sports Academy

As always, enjoy nature.
