Turimetta Moods: December 2024 + Links to all Joe's Turimetta Moods + National Parks Hikes for 2024 - Summer Break Bliss!
Along with good mate Kevin Murray, when exploring further afield in our adjacent National Parks, Joe's regular updates are a very popular source of insights and being taken on a pictorial walk each month through places some of us may not be able to access.
In fact, when the news service is running late the emails start coming in 'where's Joe?' - 'where's our 'Turimetta Moods'; for this month?'
Thank you Joe and Kevin for sharing these great adventures, strolls and hikes with everyone again this year. These regular breaths of fresh air, glorious views of the macro and micro, the history, the site investigations, the seasonal celebrations, are a gift that cannot be underestimated for all these 'pictorial walks' bring.
Joe's December 2024 edition of 'Turimetta Moods' runs below.

Turimetta Moods
Week ending 29 November 2024
A very mixed week with plenty of clouds & showers.
What stood out was the numbers of fires lit overnight by and the mess left behind (cans, glass, paper & charcoal pieces). Especially from the middle to northern end of the beach.
It's a shame to see such a quiet & former pristine beach reserve being spoiled.
Otherwise I still enjoy my walks & the local surfers are still enjoying good short waves.
Nature is ever present.
Here is some information about the White Faced Heron.

Some of the usual pics around Turimetta Beach this week. What stood out for me was the dying off of the algae on the low tide rock shelfs, and this morning's fog at Narrabeen rock pool & North Narrabeen Beach.
We called the algae a "mother species" because it did so much important nurturing work, yet hardly ever received thanks nor mention. - Angela Abraham
As always, enjoy nature.

More December 2024 pics around Turimetta Beach, Collaroy pool, Irrawong Waterfall & Warriewood home Agapanthus.
The big difference this week is a big movement of sand, covering most of the rock shelfs at the southern end, and blocking two popular local swimming locations.
The good news is that the long rock gutter is now a long calm (& deep) swimming pool, and the word is getting around.
I went for a quick walk up to Irrawong Waterfalls at the end of Mullet Creek to look for fungi, but everything is very dry & only found a couple of locations.
The weather is usually cloudy in the mornings, and clear & hot at lunchtime, but the local Narrabeen rock pool is getting busier with locals & tourists from the caravan park. They tell me the water is beautiful.
Oh, by the way, I did rescue a stranded Blackfish in a shallow tidal pool & released him into the deeper gutter. He was very happy & I was pleased with myself.
Life is simple, just add water & a sandbar. - Unknown
As always, enjoy nature.
