Turimetta Moods: June 2024

by Joe Mills

Joe's beautiful record of the postively luminous seasons from North Narrabeen to Mona Vale continues, making available for all of us not up that early, or able to access these places, what's been happening.

Thank you Joe!

Week Ending 7 June 2024

Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty.

Hi Folks

Another funny week in paradise with a mix of nice gentle mornings, as well as severe storms over the weekend, with runoff cutting the beach in half early on Monday morning.  Did manage to get some cloudy & red glow sunrises at Turimetta Beach & Narrabeen Rockpool flats.

With the recent big swells the sand has been pushed right back to the cliff edge, with more rock shelfs exposed in the tidal zones.

The bird life has been sheltering, except at the lake entrance which is always full of waterbirds.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Storm runoff across the whole of Turimetta Beach
  • Turimetta sunrises, clouds & reflections
  • Red glow sunrise with early surfers & couple
  • Sunrise photographers
  • Sunrise sand reflections
  • Photo club photographers
  • Middle Creek carpark sunrises
  • Local flowers
  • Narrabeen Rockpool tidal flats reflections

As always, enjoy nature.

Week Ending On Friday 14 June 2024

Even in the darkest of days, the sun will rise and shine brightly.

The cold weather is here with us.

Week Ending Friday 21 June 2024

Every week is a different sand movement.  Sometimes there is very severe erosion, but it always comes back.

Hi Folks

Winter is with us for sure.  The early mornings at Turimetta Beach were very cold, and even colder when windy.  The usual story of cloudy sunrises, crashing waves & beach erosion, especially on the southern end.  This was really noticeable with half the front beach gone & the rock shelfs being exposed.  Estimate that up to 3m of sand has moved.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Warriewood wetlands fungi
  • Turimetta Beach stormy sunrises
  • TB wave action
  • TB golden glow sunrises
  • TB sand erosion & exposed rock shelfs (Southern end)
  • TB Cormorant fishing in shore waves
  • TB breaking waves

As always enjoy nature.

A change of scenery.  These droplets were hanging off the succulents in our courtyard garden after recent heavy showers over last weekend (Sat 22 June 2024).  Enjoy.

Another non-sunrise pic.  This one was taken at the Narrabeen Rock Pool near the northern wall, in the tidal shallows.  It shows a school of baby fish feeding off algae, and I suspect a bit of limestone, of this lump of discarded concrete block.  Not sure what the species of fish they are?  Enjoy.
