Turimetta Moods: Week Ending 27 Oct 2023

Rain reminds all things to grow.
- Unknown

Hi folks

This has been a very wet & quiet week, with the number of surfboard riders, beach walkers & photographers down to a minimum.  Even the birds have been sheltering.

The cloud formations have been a feature, as well as blocking the sunrises.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Tidal pool plants
  • Lonely duckling at Narrabeen lake Entrance
  • Sunrise on Walsh St Warriewood
  • Grass & rock formations
  • Cloud formations
  • Surfer mid-beach
  • Northern headland rocks in rain
  • Sunrise & rain through car window

As always, enjoy nature.

Turimetta Moods: Week Ending 3 Nov 2023

Just as clouds pass by, so do our worries and troubles.
- Unknown

Hi folks

This has been a mild & cloudy week, with the number of surfboard riders, beach walkers & photographers down to a minimum.

I saw my first Channel Billed Cuckoo pair on the low trees at the southern stairs of Turimetta Beach.  Boy, did they cause a ruckus - every bird in sight (including lots of Noisy Miners & Currawongs) let the Cuckoos know they were not welcome.  They are quite a large bird, with a large beak.

The cloud formations have been a feature, as well as blocking the sunrises.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Channel Billed Cuckoos
  • Turimetta Beach cloud & rock formations
  • Turimetta southern steps park area
  • Surfers on a good wave day
  • Stranded Jellyfish
  • Warriewood Beach rock formations
  • Warriewood Beach reflections
  • Warriewood Beach sunrise beams
  • Turimetta Dove
  • Turimetta senior surfers exiting
  • Turimetta dead Shearwater (Muttonbird)
  • Turimetta rock fisherman
  • Turimetta exposed rocks at northern end of headland (sand completely gone)
  • Urchins in rock cracks in tidal pool

As always, enjoy nature.

Turimetta Moods: Week Ending 10 Nov 2023

Another cloudy & mild week.  So the photo selection is small, but hopefully enjoyable.

It was a sad week as there were about 20 Shearwaters washed up on the beach, and I had to walk past them every morning.  By Friday they were starting to be buried by the sand.  I read your PON article, and I tend to agree that exhaustion through storms and lack of food due to deep warm water columns was probably the cause.  My other concern is that if 20 birds were lost on only one beach (Turimetta), then there must have been thousands which may have perished further down their southern flight path.

Turimetta Moods: Thursday Ending 16 Nov 2023

I have always found the rain to be very calming.
- Venus Williams

Hi folks

This week was a repeat of the previous week weather-wise, so the photo numbers are quite low, but always different.

Over the past couple of weeks I have witnessed about 40 Shearwaters washed up on Turimetta Beach, and exposed after every high tide.  It was always sad to be reminded of this disaster, by walking past all these wonderful birds, who migrate from Siberia and back every year.  They all looked very thin.  There was not one fat bird.

This week the high tides have covered most of the birds under a layer of sand, which is nature's way of a mass burial.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Sunset at Warriewood
  • Sunrise rain clouds
  • Fisherman looking for a spot
  • Rock formations (north & south)
  • Rock patterns
  • Narrabeen Headland tidal flat reflections
  • Lone walker on tidal flats
  • Cormorants, Toad Fish & White Faced Heron

As always, enjoy nature.

Turimetta Moods: Week Ending Friday 24 Nov 2023

If you get caught in the rain, it means that you forgot the umbrella.
- Joe Mills

Hi folks

This week was a repeat of the previous weeks weather-wise, but with even more rain.

As well, this week was a procession of storms out to sea, all low to the horizon.  Most times I got caught out without an umbrella.  Must learn to read the clouds & dark colours better.

Some of the pics featured:

  • Little Nipper training at North Narrabeen
  • Dead Shearwater birds
  • Exposed rocks at both headlands
  • Sunrises behind cloud
  • Coffee break
  • Tidal pool animals
  • Cloudy sunset at Warriewood
  • Stardust Circus
  • Storms out to sea
  • Warriewood Wetlands & animals
  • Shearwater Estate Warriewood flowers
  • Green plant

As always, enjoy nature.
